Our Story

“Someday, we’re going to build our dream vacation home. A place where we can return to slow living, savor the present moment, and find our way back to our authentic selves.”

That was our mantra as entrepreneurs, outdoor enthusiasts, and busy puppy moms often in need of respite. We’ve always lived life at “mach one with our hair on fire,” and the busier we became, the more we realized that taking time to slow down and give our bodies, minds, and souls a rest wasn’t a luxury, it was a necessity.

The spark of an idea began to form.

We had the tools and the know-how to make this dream a reality.

Between our experience in construction, home inspection, realty, home staging, and epic vacationing, we knew exactly what we wanted and how to achieve our dream.

But taking on this project – at the level we have always dreamt of – was a little daunting.

We needed a push.

Boy, did we get it.

The push came in the form of three deaths in our family in a matter of 6 weeks at the end of 2021.

We were shell-shocked and devastated. It took time to process the intense grief. Once we had begun to surface again, our appreciation for life was renewed and reinvigorated.

We got the message loud and clear: Tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone.

The time to put our dream into motion was NOW.

The desire to cultivate a more intentional way of life drew us back to one of our favorite places to visit, Pine, Arizona.

We became smitten years ago when we stumbled upon the quaint, charming town. The weather is mild, the scenery is breathtaking, and its location near Blue Ridge Reservoir and the Mogollon Rim made our favorite outdoor activities easy to access.

We wanted a property where we could curate an environment ripe for making memories and enjoying the company of those we love in a beautiful, natural, secluded setting, free from mindless distractions.

After months of searching, the perfect place revealed itself.

The property, with its towering trees, abundant wildlife, and calming energy spoke to us immediately. And although the house was charming as it was, we knew we had to take it down to its very foundation and studs in order to bring our vision to fruition.

Taking a cue from the hygge ("hyoo·guh") philosophy, we began with the bold idea to create a cozy-yet-luxurious environment where people could decompress from their busy lives and get back to a more relaxed,

intentional way of living.

We knew we’d have to be involved in every decision, making sure each element met our standards for comfort, efficiency, luxury, and purpose.

Wherever possible, we did the work ourselves. We jackhammered tile, scraped out linoleum, ripped out carpet, pried out cabinets, donated furniture and appliances, and made a few runs to the dump.

To be honest, we used the physicality of the work to help us release the sorrow of our loss and ring in the future with a BANG! It felt good.

Next, we called in the experts to build our dream cabin retreat from the ground up and the inside-out, all under our watchful eye.

Today, we’re proud to share Pine Chalet with other seekers of:
